FIG summer fete

The fete on Sat 18th June was opened by Serdar Duzenli, owner of the Land of Lights newspaper.  FIG would like to thank Nigel & Ian of Kismet Bar, very much for the special support they gave to our fete, especially with the announcements and for the general sense of fun injected by Nigel.  Thanks are also due to Val’s bar, who hosted sales of homemade produce; Hamsi Bar who cooked the tasty sausages and chips at a very reasonable price and the Irish bar, who hosted a children’s game.

We were treated to some superb folk dancing from the pupils of the Silkar School in Gunlukbaşi, where we had recently refurbished a nursery classroom.  The Telmessos Line Dancers, who dance in Hisaronu at the Abrahkebabrah every Wednesday afternoon and at Sims Bar, Çaliş every Saturday evening gave a very enjoyable performance; if you fancy some line dancing you will find a warm welcome with them.  Thank you also to the Deniz Restaurant  who gave the space for the dancers and to the craft stallholders who were able to set up in the shade of the trees.

We also had the ‘goalie’ from Fethiye Spor who valiantly saved all of the shots made against him.  Sue Brown was much in demand as Psychedelic Sue.

The tug of war was ably won by the Kismet bar team who, despite their putting up a valiant fight, defeated the  Elite diving team in the final – well done the Kismet team!

We recognise Jill Erdoğan for the enormous amount of time and energy she spent in organising the event ably assisted by Julie Peach and a few others.  However we need to apologise for the things that did not happen due to several last minute let downs, not least being the decision of the council not to announce the event over the Tannoy system so that more folk at least would have known about the attendance of their local football celebrity.
