A SPECIAL SCHOOL VISIT

On Thursday 2^nd of June we were invited to visit the school in Ortaköy to officially open the new children’s playground we had provided.  Seldom have we had such enthusiastic pleasure shown towards the donations we have made.  Here the headmaster, Azim Sakal, declared that the playground we provided, which included, a slide, a see saw, two sets of swings, a climbing frame, a bar and three benches, exceeded their wildest expectations.  They were so pleased to be the first village in the area to have a children’s playground and Sakal said that when he first saw the children queing for the slide, their pleasure brought tears to his eyes.  Not only does this playground serve the children well during school hours, reputedly parents are being dragged to the school after hours, so that the children can continue to enjoy the facilities.  We also know that many in the village are looking forward to enjoying them throughout the summer months as well.  The equipment was built and provided by Özgür Bey of Selit Peyzaj and we thank them for the reasonable price and the extra special efforts they made to meet the deadlines we required.  We also thank Fethiye Belediyesi for their support and their provision of two of the benches.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

In confirmation of the appreciation that they felt, the school arranged a formal ‘opening ceremony’ and after a few speeches, singing of the national anthem and some superb folk dancing by the school’s folklore team, Jill Erdogan, Gill Frearson, Grace Carter and Sue Tekin, had great fun cutting a red ribbon, then the children had great fun sliding, swinging, see-sawing and climbing.  We were also presented with a special thank you certificate from the school.  Then the ten of us who went on the visit, accompanied by Kadriye and Unal Bey from FETAV were whisked off to the village of Oren and treated to a trout lunch – delicious!  It was just sad that more of the FIG supporters, who really made this donation possible, were not able to join us on this visit, but a great deal of thanks to them and to Kadriye, for all her phone calls and to Gill Frearson who persisted in the hunt to find good quality equipment at the most reasonable price.  The school have issued an open invitation for any FIG supporters to visit them when they wish, however any such visit would best be arranged through Kadriye at FETAV.
