SCHOOL VISIT
On Thursday 16th we made our first school visits for this academic year to two schools that nestle in the folds of the White Mountains just beyond Kemer, overlooking the beautiful Xanthos valley. We have been to these schools before but they are two of the few remaining village schools who continue to need support. At the first school the stalwart and experienced teacher manages 34 students for the first 3 years of their education. It was lovely to meet everyone again. The teacher encouraged the children to remember our visit, explaining that we (well most of us) came from a far away country, especially to live here and how wanting to be part of the community we also wished to share time with them and were interested in their welfare. We left writing books, writing and coloured pencils, erasers, rulers and reading books for the teacher to distribute to them. We also left 10 school bags for the children who did not have them and provided a printer for use with the computer that the school did have. We also shared some sweets and were generously treated to borek and tea before we left for the next school. A little higher up we found the next school a little smaller- by 10 students- and again with just one teacher to simultaneously teach 3 separate years in one classroom. Here we left the same sort of items including a printer and the children treated us to a song. This is a picture of these children taken as we were leaving.
