SCHOOL VISITS 2008

On the 6th March we made a return visit to the school at Faralya, when we were accompanied by a local TV channel.  We were really pleased to see that the school now had a new nursery class and that the paint and cupboards we had previously provided had been used to brighten the whole school up.  There are now 2 teachers and an overall brighter happier atmosphere, showing how essential fresh surroundings and the right equipment are to assisting the teaching staff to make the school experience an enjoyable one.  Also it is good to see how committed the education system now is to providing everything the new nursery classes need.  One thing Faralya school would like is some playground equipment such as swings and slides, so if anyone is interested in donating such items please let us know.

On 20th March we made return visits to Gokben and Zorlar schools when we were accompanied by Fethiye radio and Television who are in the process of making a documentary programme about foreigners settled in the area.

Gokben school has received considerable support from FIG most notably the refurbishment of the nursery class in memory of Bob Abraham, here we were treated to songs from the children with one young soloist making a special mark!

We were pleased to see that Zorlar school had recovered well from the fire of last year and now had a new library.  The microscope that FIG donated last year was a welcome part of the equipment of their science laboratory and the children gave us a demonstration of its use.
