NEW YEAR - NEW VENUE On Friday 11th January Sayin Unal Dirlik opened our new venue above the Sumer Tekstil shop which is at the back of the fish market. If you look up you should see our logo in the window, we are on the first floor and very easy to find when there. Unal Bey, poet, local historian and retired teacher has been a staunch supporter of FIG’s activities and has helped us find many a distant village school! We are very grateful for his time and best wishes at the re-launching of FIG in our new premises and many thanks too to those who sent flowers.
FINANCES FIG has been extremely fortunate to rent our room at a very reasonable rent and providing we return to making as much money as we did from our old venue our expenses will prove to be a lot less than 25% of our income. In fact we should have the opportunity to increase our income as we can open more often, but this does very much depend on being given the articles, bric-a brac and second hand clothes to sell. Our sales are very popular and because of generous donations we often have some nearly new and interesting articles for sale so please do support us. Why should you do this? We would say because you wish to directly contribute to the welfare of local children, both with their health and their education. FIG is paying bursaries to 10 children who would otherwise be unable to attend university. We continue to take books and provided other needed equipment to the more remote primary schools, usually half way up a mountain somewhere! We have just paid for the easels for Kanal F’s programme at noon on Saturdays when they provide art lessons for the local children who were deemed to be failing art at their schools. We have provided a new uniform and shoes for a young lad attending technical school in Fethiye as well as undertaking to pay his fares as he was previously walking from Gunlukbasi! |
